All set!

The image on the left is of the massive milkshakes Nick & I had at the weekend: they are 24 oz - around 700 ml or 1.24 UK pints - and, though delicious, were far too big to finish! I guess they are a good symbol of the slightly large, and slightly unnecessary, size of most things here.

I've now had a nice walk around the campus, which is very much modeled on Oxbridge, but not necessarily in a bad way - just a bit confusing to keep walking through arches and doors and quad and not actually ever reach an endpoint! Nick kindly put together all my Ikea furniture so now the flat looks like a real home rather than a temporary stopping point - it's rather nice and I am growing rapidly fond of it, which I guess is a good thing. Work starts tomorrow, and I'm quite looking forward to it - I haven't done any intellectual work (apart from trying to divine the health insurance paperwork...) since the viva, and I feel about ready for new stuff! I just have to figure out a way of getting to and from there every day...

La foto in apertura e' dei giganteschi milkshake che io & Nick abbiamo tentato di bere/mangiare l'altro giorno: sono circa 700 ml, buonissimi ma fin troppo enormi!! Non siamo riusciti a finirli. Mi sembrano ben rappresentativi della grandezza tipica delle cose qui, tutto e' fin troppo enorme.

Abbiamo fatto una bella passeggiata per il campus dell'universita', che si modella molto su Oxford e Cambridge, in maniera positiva pero' - e' solo un po strano attraversare archi e portoni e cortili e non arrivare mai all fine! Ma il tutto e' molto carino, ci sono altre foto su Facebook se la cosa vi interessa.

Nick mi ha molto gentilmente montato tutti i mobili di Ikea e adesso l'appartamento sembra piu una vera casa e non solo una sosta temporanea - e' carina e mi ci sto rapidamente affezionando, il che credo sia una cosa buona. Domani finalmente prendo servizio, e mi fa piacere - non faccio sforzi cerebrali (a parte la lotta con le carte dell'assicurazione sanitaria) dall'orale del dottorato, e mi sento pronta per qualcosa di nuovo! Devo solo trovare il modo di andare e venire ogni giorno...
