Happiness is a warm bed

[al solito, versione Italiana piu' giu']

So this town has a dog patisserie - yes, a place that makes cakes for dogs ("Pawtisserie" they call themselves, ho ho) - right in the centre, but to find a place that would sell me hot water bottle I had to go out in the sticks....craziness. But at least I have one now and I no longer have to go to bed wearing three layers of clothes - yes, I know there is such a thing as heating but I suspect mine is broken so I need to get onto that before it gets more cold.

Other random tidbits:

- This Guardian article which I find slightly alarming - here I am, with my Obama '08 button (seriously) all ready to celebrate come Nov 5th, and then they pull this on me...let's hope they're wrong.

- I now have my own internet connection. I phoned yesterday and got it installed today, how's that for service?? I guess there are good things about this place after all...

- Last night the public library showed Sedotta e Abbandonata, a 1964 Italian film set in rural Sicily, about out-of-wedlock pregnancies and protecting the family honour. Although there were some amusing interludes, in the main the stuff about honour and bella figura was quite terrifying and I think everyone felt immensely grateful not to live there then. Definitely those of you who like to go on about patriarchal societies (you know who you are....) would get a lot of mileage out of it!

- Possibly as exciting as having internet, I got my bike! And have ridden it for a part of the afternoon without injury to myself or other people or things. Nor too much fear. I am so so happy and feel a lot more independent now and able to go places without it taking forever...so yeay me. And share my joy.

Until my next ramble....

In Italiano

I see you don't mention the patriarchy to the Italians. I blame the patriarchy, you know.
