Retro awesomeness

The post title refers to one of my current obsessions: looking up retro 'instructional' videos on YouTube. Oh.My.God. they are wonderful! Where do I start? How about with "How to be well groomed" (1949), where we follow Dan and Sue's day to see how perfectly arranged they always are. Stepford kids or something - see for yourself:



And here is a 1932 gem on "The mystery of marriage", which makes even mold sound high-minded and romantic -



I do love YouTube...and will be posting more of my favourites soon. It's freezing over here - like water on the ground frozen over freezing - and the only reason it hasn't snowed is that the skies are beautifully clear and blue. *Shiver* Luckily my boxes are arriving on Tuesday (calloo! callay!) so I will have proper winter clothes and will be able to cope. (This also means I will suddenly have tons more books and clothes and stuff to tidy away somehow....)

Lots of other good things have happened this week:
~ I got to see Laura today!!! That was really, really nice. Needless to say I miss you all....
~ I found a supermarket that does home delivery. My life is now 10x easier. At least.
~ I discovered that the Princeton YMCA has a gym, and swimming pool, and does aqua aerobics classes, so I am not doomed to balloon dangerously due to over-consumption of granola bars and Reeses cups.
~ I had friends from work over for dinner and it was very pleasant, the food worked out despite my dodgy oven, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to make food for more than just one person.

So all in all, a pretty successful week. Up next: flying to Dublin on Wednesday to meet up with Nick!

Il titolo del post si riferisce a una delle mie ossessioni al momento: cercare video istruttivi retro su YouTube. Sono fantastici!! Nella parte inglese del post ne ho messi due, uno e' "come essere sempre in ordiner" (1949) dove ci sono Dan e Sue che sono due perfettini da prendere a schiaffi, l'altro e' una perla del 1932, "il mistero del matrimonio", dove riescono ad attribuire sentimenti amorosi alle muffe. I love YouTube! Ne postero' sicuramente altri a breve.

Qui si gela - letteralmente, le pozzanghere sono ghiacciate - e se non nevica e' solo perche' il cielo e' limpidissimo e azzurro. Brrrr. Per fortuna i cartoni con la mia roba arrivano martedi (gioia e tripudio!) quindi avro' dei vestiti invernali come si deve e non dovro' gelare. (e vuol dire anche che mi ritrovero' con un casino di libri e vestiti e schifezze da sistemare...)

Questa settimana e' stata piena di cose belle:

~ Oggi ho visto la mia amica Laura, che mi ha fatto tanto tanto piacere...mi mancano i miei amici!!
~ Ho trovato un supermercato che fa la consegna a domicilio, il che rende la mia vita almeno 10 volte piu facile.
~ Ho scoperto che in paese c'e' una palestra, e una piscina, dove si fa aqua gym, quindi non sono condannata ad allargarmi a dismisura causa eccessivo consumo di schifezze americane
~ Sono venuti a cena alcuni amici/colleghi ed e' stato molto bello, gli ho fatto gli gnocchi al forno che sembrano aver apprezzato molto (nonostante il mio forno un po imprevedibile, e la qualita della materia prima), e sono stata molto contenta di poter cucinare per piu di una sola persona.

Insomma nel complesso una settimana abbastanza positiva. A seguire: mercoledi vado a Dublino per incontrarmi con Nick!
